Second Semester
First Semester
Hello Students and Parents! I really enjoyed saying hello to everyone last night at Meet and Greet! You are an amazing group of people--I was so impressed by everyone's patience, manners and interest in our language arts classroom. I apologize for the waiting line out the door--I can never seem to solve that problem and you probably felt like you were in a wedding reception line (I felt that way!)
Just a reminder that all my students need a spiral notebook or comp book for next week. We use the front half as our IAN (Interactive Notebook) and the 2nd half will be a journal area. Students will need these by Friday, August 7th. I may have a few more supply requests coming your way, as I figure out our needs! Thank you again for all you do!

First Day of School!!!!!
Well, we made it! First days are always chaotic and exciting! Your students were very patient (life experience!) as we figured out schedules, buses, attendance and yes--some learning in our content area! For the first week, all my classes have the same content and we began a unit on Identity. Please check the class pages for my picture of our classwork. Remember your homework parents...make sure your student has a spiral or composition notebook for Friday! We will dedicate them and decorate them on Friday and begin using them in class on Tuesday (August 11th). Please note this Monday all of my classes are scheduled for media center orientation!

Homeroom/First Period enjoyed a fabulous Fundraiser Kickoff in the theater!!! Mr. Mosley, aka "The Cookie Man" encouraged students to sell cookie dough and other delicious products in order to earn wonderful prizes and rewards. Student achievement and recognition is the central purpose of this fundraiser program! Students were given packets and instructions on safe selling procedures--please support them in their goals : ) Have a WONDERFUL WEEKEND and I'm looking forward to seeing my amazing parents on Monday evening for Curriculum Night, 6pm!

Hi everyone--please check your individual pages for some new additions this week. On Sunday nights I will be posting the weekly plan for each of my classes. I will continue to take a snapshot of our daily plans from the whiteboard, but will also be including attachments for each day. This should be helpful for absent students to download and print. Please remember that sometimes we need to adjust the schedule. This week is particularly full, so we may need to move the Feather Circle to Monday. Note: All classes are producing a Scar Story narrative, but AC is studying the elements of documentary and on level is studying informational writing (detailed plans attached for each page.)
Monday, August 24, 2015
I would change this meme to teacher at the beginning of Monday, teacher at the end of Monday!!!!
PLEASE NOTE: We are having SRI testing in lab this Friday, so Feather circle will be Monday.

Parents Please Be Advised: Progress reports were sent home today for you to review and sign. At this point in the semester, my students who are missing an assignment may still make that assignment up for credit. All my classes will close the unit on Conflict and Change on Friday, September 18th. When we return from Fall Break, classes will begin a new unit and I will no longer accept work for Conflict and Change. Need to make up a quiz? Make arrangements to come in early or stay late. No extra credit available, just dedicated hard work for the remainder of the semester. There is plenty of time and opportunity to recover grades to meet desired goals! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me! [email protected]

Hello to All! Just want you to know that there will be a short test in all my classes (except for ELT) this Friday. The test will consist of 10 MC questions which will ask students to identify the conflict in the short passage and summarize it. The test will also include a brief extended response. As always, the department assessment will focus on application of skills and knowledge. We will review the types of conflict in all my classes tomorrow.
Sunday, September 7, 2015
ELA and AC ELA classes begin novel study tomorrow. Both classes have been building background knowledge with a webquest for AC and survival scenarios for ELA. So exciting to begin reading such fantastic selections!! If you haven't yet purchased your copy of The Alchemist for AC ELA, please do so quickly! I have 25 personal copies to loan the class, but it is really so much better if students have their own copies. Please note for ELA: the order of our novels has changed, but we will be reading The Liberation of Gabriel King in the 2nd semester.

My testing group for CoGAT was outstanding and I will have this same group for IOWA (my homeroom roster with some changes.) My focus this week is on building and maintaining classroom community. I have sent out five good news grams to outstanding students. I am also rewarding all classroom behavior this week that is respectful, responsible and safe. Students will be immediately rewarded with a small treat and additionally have an opportunity for a drawing this Friday. We also have a graffiti poster to write names and actions of students who are responsible--our character trait of the month at Floyd. Positive thinking is what is right at Floyd!
